The reason youĀ criticizeĀ yourself and others isn't all that complicated. You are simply unaware that you have been telling a "story" to yourself about yourself and about others. That story goes something like this: "I don't matter" or "I am not enough".

You don't know it, but when you tell yourselfĀ the story "I don't matter" or "I am not enough", you feel bad. Those bad feelings cloud your judgment about others. Conflict erupts, hurt feelings last, jealousy rears its head, and you get into a rut you can't get out of.Ā

We are going to use ā€œcreating a storyā€ asĀ the term for this explanation. The ā€œstoryā€ you tell yourselfĀ aboutĀ that experience is the same as the THOUGHTS and FEELINGS you have about theĀ experience. Sometimes the ā€œstoryā€ (same as your THOUGHTS and FEELINGS) that youĀ tell yourself aboutĀ an experience is not helpful or productive. You will know it is not helpful or productive by the way you FEEL about the experience, by the ACTIONS you take, and by the RESULTS you get.
